& nbsp;   Separating the chicken flock by gender is an effective management method that can increase fertilization rates and maintain a healthy weight for roosters. Although this is an obvious fact, in the past few decades, people have not given enough attention to the development of feeding systems that can meet the rapid growth needs of chickens. Now, a new type of rooster feeding system provides a solution.
 & nbsp;  Breeding experts from a Dutch breeding company evaluate the existingRooster feeding systemAfter evaluation, it was concluded that some improvements must be made to these systems to meet the needs of modern rooster breeding. Afterwards, they held discussions with VDL product development experts from several equipment manufacturers and challenged themselves to propose a new concept, namely the rooster balanced feeding trough system. Experts realize that in tray stylefeeding system Almost all rooster feeders in China are virtually useless because the technical means used in these systems are the same, that is, when the feeder descends, if the hen has not yet arrived, the feeder can truly be used by the rooster.
 & nbsp;  The design of traditional poultry houses can fully meet the needs of hens, but almost no consideration is given to providing more space and feeding pipelines for roosters. As a result, due to space limitations, the chicken flock is overcrowded during feeding, and all chickens cannot be peaceful. Another related issue is that in some tray feeding systems, not all trays are filled with feed at the same time, resulting in roosters fiercely running over to compete for feed when the feed is conveyed downwards. The keeper also found that fierce roosters consume much more food than they need, while non fierce roosters may not be able to obtain enough feed they need. Excessive feed intake may also be due to the excessive amount of feed added each time or the placement of chickens on the lower tray during the formation of a V-shaped feeding chain. This overall results in uneven weight distribution and low mating rates among roosters.
 & nbsp;    Ground space increases. In order to address and solve the above problems, some poultry farms in the Netherlands have tried to fix the feeding trough on one wall of the chicken coop. Based on these experiments, VDL company invited a breeding expert to guide on how to makeRooster balanced feeding trough feeding systemAs an alternative to the tray feeding system for roosters. In several new model experiments conducted, it can be clearly seen that when the feeding chain is V-shaped, a flat bottomed groove appears at the bottom, which can greatly improve the behavioral and production performance of the chicken flock& nbsp;
 & VDL does not use a chain but instead uses a spiral method to inject feed into the feed trough. This type of tube groove has many specially shaped holes at the bottom to ensure even distribution of the spiral feeder material. The feeding amount can be adjusted by adjusting the pipe and groove bottom to eight different heights.
 & nbsp;    When the feeding time is up, the feed trough containing feed is transported down by the winch, and the pipe rises in the trough to allow the chickens to eat. In this way, all roosters can eat at the same time and each chicken has a spacious area (about 20 centimeters per chicken), avoiding conflicts caused by food grabbing.
 & nbsp;  Flat bottomed troughs encourage aggressive chickens to spend more time eating because they cannot eat large amounts of food in one breath. It also loses its meaning to drive away other non aggressive chickens, as all chickens can obtain an equal amount of food and can only eat from the bottom of the flat trough. This makes all roosters have consistent feeding times and consume similar amounts.

Better control and selection of possibilities
 & nbsp;  Most chicken farms that use VDL's balanced feeding system for roosters install this system on the walls of the chicken coop to leave more open space for chickens to mate. Mr. Gert van den Top, a Dutch farmer, is one of them. His chicken coop originally didn't have extra space to install a rooster feeding line, but he was deeply attracted by this new feeding system, so he installed a set on the wall on one side of the coop. His practice has proven that during feeding, all roosters line up one by one to eat without any confusion. This also makes it much easier to evaluate the growth status of these roosters. Of course, Mr. Gert van den Top has just installed this equipment for a short period of time, so it is too early to draw conclusions about the results. However, he is full of expectations for achieving satisfactory results.

 & Mr. Stefan Donkers, a friend of Mr. Gert van den Top, has more experiences. He has several chicken coops and installed a rooster balanced feeding system in one of them, which makes it easy for him to compare the rooster balanced feeding system with the tray feeding systems in other chicken coops. When asked about his feelings, he began to list the advantages of using a balanced feeding system for roosters in his 40 week old chicken coop. All roosters consume the same amount of food at the same time, thereby reducing the time for rest disturbance. They do not need to fight over the location of the food source, as they can all get the same amount of food. If roosters eat slowly, all chickens will stay on the feeder, giving non aggressive chickens more time to obtain food and have better performance and healthy feathers. Not only do roosters get more time, but hens can also eat quietly without being disturbed by roosters, "Stefan said.

 & nbsp;  Stefan was very excited when he saw that all the roosters in the chicken coop were neatly lined up while eating with the installation of a balanced feeding system for roosters. Undoubtedly, his evaluation of this system was very good. Usually, when the flock of chickens reaches 40 weeks of age, the roosters need to be replaced, but "Stefan said," there is no reason to do so in this chicken coop. He hopes that in the coming time, if the roosters look good and reproduce normally, they will no longer be replaced or only a few will be replaced. When comparing the roosters in this chicken coop with those in other tray feeding system chicken coops, the egg production rate of this coop remains at a high level, and the egg production rate in other tray feeding system chicken coops usually gradually decreases with the age of the chicken flock.

 & nbsp;      Although there are not many farmers currently installing rooster balanced feeders and lacking experience in using this system, they unanimously express their expectation for the system to achieve ideal results. They believe that over time, more poultry farms will adopt this rooster feeding system to provide more data to illustrate its superiority. Due to the relatively short application time of this system, everyone is looking forward to seeing more excellent features that have not yet been demonstrated.
